Satan, and other dudes.

Sitting here in the cave, transferring this from vinyl to CD/MP3 for a friend, thinking all manner of strange thoughts that float around when immersed in semi-Satanic J. Page ambience.

Speaking of Lucifer, went to see the Ayatollah's best bro Salman Rushdie speak in Santa Cruz the other night, courtesy of my dear friend Will, who shares a similar (questionable) taste in lit and such. Sir Rushdie is a charming, witty and refreshingly unpretentious dude! Rather than pimp his new book, he spoke at length about his modest beginnings in advertising copy, the creative inspiration he derives from the Arabian Nights and his mother's gift of gossip, among other topics - all compelling. Gracious as hell when answering questions from the audience. I want to drink whiskey with this guy! Seriously.

Anyway, Will got me an autographed copy of his new book for my BD - will advise. Looks light when compared to Verses or Midnight's Children, but in a good way.

Father's Day

And I'm all like, "Yeah!".

For reals, though - I agree (of course) that fatherhood is the quintessential responsibility in a man's life. Clearly, any mouthbreather with a boner can (help) make a baby, that doesn't make you a father. "It's the courage to raise a child that makes you a father." Indeed. I take this very seriously - maybe because it is so scary (somehow the scary things seem most important, most compelling), but also because I think my son deserves a good dad - I mean, come on! That's the LEAST I can do, no matter what else.

When I think about these Dad-things, I'm feeling less and less that my life is a reaction to my father's absence (read: forgive!) and more of a creation of my own (silly, stubborn) will and I like that. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm cool with cycles being refashioned, as opposed to being broken.

So anyway, here's to present dads. Everywhere.

Man, eff the Lakers...

But eff Dave Stern & his Company men more. In light of the allegations set forth by Jailbird Tim, I'd like to offer a final venting of newly boiled annoyance at the results of Game 6 in the 2002 WCF:

Then again, no one forced them Kings to miss alla those Game 7 freethrows, so...

Wouldn't it be awesome if they had to regroup the teams and play a do-over game?

GO CELTICS!
