Father's Day
And I'm all like, "Yeah!".
For reals, though - I agree (of course) that fatherhood is the quintessential responsibility in a man's life. Clearly, any mouthbreather with a boner can (help) make a baby, that doesn't make you a father. "It's the courage to raise a child that makes you a father." Indeed. I take this very seriously - maybe because it is so scary (somehow the scary things seem most important, most compelling), but also because I think my son deserves a good dad - I mean, come on! That's the LEAST I can do, no matter what else.
When I think about these Dad-things, I'm feeling less and less that my life is a reaction to my father's absence (read: forgive!) and more of a creation of my own (silly, stubborn) will and I like that. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm cool with cycles being refashioned, as opposed to being broken.
So anyway, here's to present dads. Everywhere.
XO
