It is kinda lurchingly spooky for a sec isn't it ? - the part where the camera enters the cloud layer. I had read on Pitchfork that this is recycled documentary footage from the 60's: a man took a balloon up to 102,000 feet.
Then JUMPED OUT.
I also like the shot of the empty balloon carriage after he jumps. Lonely and beautiful.

definitely lonely, definitely beautiful, beyond words.
and as if that wasn't enough: I've read that afterwards, kittinger said that on his way down, he hallucinated that his parachute hadn't opened, and that he fell through the earth and had begun falling through hell.
I can only imagine he was a changed man when he landed, and forever after.
