Dig Enki Bilal

Ski & I just watched this surreal sci-fi film called Immortal directed by a Czech-born, French-raised comic artist named Enki Bilal. Holy crap. Total weird freakout fantasy. I can't really explain it adequately, but it involves a foxy, mystical, eugenically altered blued-haired being, overweight mutant politicians, a cryogenically frozen social reformer who compulsively quotes Baudelaire, and the ancient Egyptian god Horus looking to get totally laid in 2095 New York. Oh, and Central Park is some kind of intra-dimensional psychic no-man's land, kinda like the Zone in Tarkovsky's Stalker. Plus, Charlotte Rampling is in it! Charlotte effing Rampling!

Anyway, I gotta find some of his graphic novels translated, 'cos my French is for crap. His stuff looks a lot like one of my favorite artists, another French comic writer-illustrator named Moebius. Enki Bilal - anyone heard of him? Here's a few things I found on the dudernets:

...and another:

and yet another:

OK. I've had my fan boy moment. And how are you? New podcast coming up soon.

enki bilal! enki bilal!
I was lucky enough to see an art show of his work at a hole-in-the-wall museum in paris a few years back... several dozen of his original paintings. abolutely stunning, to say the least.
if you can find 'le sommeil du monstre" translated, get that one. it's one of my favorites.
